Conference “Accessibility of Public and Taxi Transport for Persons with Disabilities”

The Academic Inclusive Association held a press conference titled “Accessibility of Public and Taxi Transport for Persons with Disabilities” on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the UNS Press Center.

The conference topics focused on the inaccessibility of public transport and the lack of adapted taxi services for all wheelchair users, as well as the impact of public and taxi transport on the exclusion of persons with disabilities from public life in Belgrade.

The Association presented research results regarding the current conditions of public and taxi transport for persons with disabilities in Belgrade and proposed potential solutions to the discriminatory situation they currently face. It was also highlighted to what extent the dignity of persons with disabilities is compromised due to limited transport options necessary for education, employment, work, and daily social activities, as well as how these restrictions affect their independence.

Discussions also covered the implementation of policies at both city and national levels that directly or indirectly place persons with disabilities in the role of discrimination victims, such as the Decision on Auto-Taxi Transport by the Organizational Unit of the City Administration of Belgrade responsible for public transport and the Law on Passenger Transport in Road Traffic.

Speakers at the conference included:

– Milan Janković, Executive Director of the Association of Students with Disabilities

– Maša Stojaković, graduate lawyer and wheelchair user

– Jovana Novaković, moderator
