On Saturday, September 14, the Academic Inclusive Association, in cooperation with the Infominosnb (Webinfo) portal, held a workshop titled “Media Literacy as a Mechanism to Prevent Abuse in Non-Discriminatory Reporting on Persons with Disabilities in Society” at the Youth Office premises in Bečej.
The workshop was conducted as part of the project “Media Literacy and Equality of Persons with Disabilities,” supported by the Novi Sad Journalism School, within the regional project “Our Media: Initiative for Improving Media Literacy, Dialogue, and Activism.”
Twenty participants took part in the workshop, including representatives of local media and members of civil society organizations from Bečej and Novi Bečej, as well as representatives from the Bečej Youth Office.
Media representatives analyzed common mistakes in reporting through examples and worked on developing inclusion in journalistic practice. Special attention was given to key concepts of social inclusion and the role of the media in its advancement.
On the other hand, members of civil society organizations developed strategies to enhance inclusivity within their organizations and communities. They focused on strengthening capacities to identify and address issues faced by persons with disabilities in local environments, emphasizing cooperation with media as key partners in raising awareness and creating positive change.
