Equalization of abilities in the high education through support services for young and students with disabilities.

The program “Equalization of abilities in the high education through support services for young and students with disabilities” realizes continuously since 2002.

The previous significant results of program are:

Availability of support and daily advocacy for students with disabilities (writing recommendations, complaints, requests and other advocacy types). The support was given for over 1.100 students with disabilities in the exercising of scholarships and in the reducing or exemption of tuition fees. A support service related to student scholarships has been established at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development the success rate of our candidates for scholarships is over 86%. Personal assistance support is provided for over 50 students with disabilities. About 500 books were adapted (scanned) in electronic form (PDF WORD etc). About 70 units of literature have been recorded in audio format. In the period up to 2006, van transportation was organized for  students with disabilities, which was used daily by a total of over 70 students. Over 300 students with disabilities completed one of the language courses. More than 250 psychosocial support workshops were held with the participation of more than 600 students with disabilities. Over 200 self-advocacy workshops were held with the participation of over 700 young people with disabilities. More than 250 young people with disabilities have been empowered through various trainings in the field of career development. More than 150 students were trained to provide peer assistance. The “Inclusive Employment Fair” platform was established. Over 50 AIA activists were empowered through the recruitment workshops. Over 600 candidates for study enrollment received support during enrollment. More than 200 young people with disabilities participated in the organized trips.

The program realizes its activities in the territory of the City of Belgrade. The program was supported by the Ministry of Social Affairs in the period 2002-2012. and from the City Secretariat for Social Protection of the City of Belgrade since 2012.

Inkluzijada

Over 500 students and young people without disabilities were introduced to the practical potential of the student population with disabilities through educational workshops, joint activities and competitive experiences for students without and with disabilities. Developed ideas of equality and responsibility of students with disabilities together with students without disabilities. Encouraged personal development of over 500 participants of the central event “Inkluzijada” for the inclusion of students with disabilities in all student activities.

More than 1,500 students without disabilities gained insight and information about the ideas of equality for people with disabilities. On samples of over 2,500 students, research was conducted on attitudes and social distance towards students with disabilities in 15 student camps and 20 higher education institutions in Belgrade, Niš and Kragujevac.

As a result of the realized program, the existing networks of students (with and without disabilities were expanded and additionally strengthened, who within the academic community actively promote and support the engagement of young people with disabilities in all aspects of academic life. The number of male and female students without disabilities who have a positive experience with students with disabilities through joint work and sports activities has increased, the number of students without disabilities with developed ideas of equality and social inclusion of students with disabilities has also increased; The result of this program is that a greater number of students with disabilities and students without disabilities are sensitive to the principles and values of an inclusive society and use non-discriminatory terminology for the population of persons with disabilities in everyday speech, a greater number of students are familiar with the practical aspects of support services and the functioning of students with disabilities in higher education and in life.

Over 50 practitioners and student and youth organizations were empowered by the leadership skills of members of youth and student organizations in the function of planning and implementing activities oriented towards social inclusion. These participants are familiar with and know how to apply tools that enable the removal of barriers and the inclusion of young people in social life. Over 250 young people with disabilities have been empowered to advocate for themselves and advocate for their rights.
