AIA Academic inclusive Association Serbia is a non governmental, non profit organization which fights for exercising and respecting human rights, and for equalizing abilities for youth and students with disabilities by creating conditions for inclusive formal and nonformal education and application of the social model in the access to disability. AIA was founded under the name (udruzenje studenata sa hendikepom USH) association of students with disabilities in 2000, with a goal of giving support to persons with disabilities in high education, and creating conditions which would enable independence and equal participation of persons with disabilities. Recognizing the social needs for action, which overcomes field of the high education, organization changed the name in the month of December 2022 to (Akademska inkluzivna asocijacija) Academic Inclusive Association. After changing of the name, organization expanded its mission and set the new strategic goals.
As a first organization in Serbia (SR Yugoslavia) which gathers young persons with a different types of disability, regardless of the medical diagnosis, and young people without disability too, through inclusive, cross-disability access, AIA decided for a wider social action than high education. Following the vision “inclusive society of equal abilities in which persons with disabilities have active and equal role” Academic inclusive association works to build the civil society based to creating equal abilities and realizing equality for all citizens, nonviolence, nondiscrimination, for respecting human rights despite to differences, social inclusion and responsibility.
In the previous work, AIA realized over 180 projects from the different fields and working programs of the organization. The most significant projects and activities of the association are: Different support services for students with disabilities; realization of campaigns about promoting human rights and rights to the education for persons with disabilities, promoting of the social model in contrast to merciful and medical model in to access to persons with disabilities; advocacy of the inclusive education to all educational levels; development and advancement of the educational inclusive politics; psychosocial support to young people with disabilities; coordination of the peer personal assistance in high education; set-up a different courses, trainings and workshops for empowerment of young and students with disabilities; advocacy of the inclusive youth politics; youth organization empowerment to give support for active participation of young with disabilities in the youth activities; realization of peer mentoring; organization and realization of inclusive youth and student events; participation in about 10 working groups for making laws, strategies and action plans to prevent discrimination, to develop all of three educational levels, to advance the position of persons with disabilities as well as youth work and student organizing; founding of the regional network for young and students with disability; employment for persons with disabilities; promoting and advocacy political participation of persons with disabilities, as well as various support forms to young and students with disabilities in exercise of rights.

Activities of the Academic inclusive association are characterized by the following principles: social model of access to disability in contrast to medical and merciful access to disability, nondiscrimination, respecting of the differences and human rights, building civil society, equalizing abilities and equality, social inclusion, an active participation of persons with disabilities and responsibility and inclusive nonformal education.
